THOMAS BREEDEN

Thomas Breeden is an arts administrator, writer, and musician. They are currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Arts Administration from Goucher College, and are set to graduate in May 2022. They are also the Founding Director of Artstitution, an arts administration education project dedicated to building the arts through storytelling, and host of the interview podcast Artists at Work

Previously, Thomas served as Communications Associate for The Richmond Forum, America's largest non-profit speaker series, based in Richmond, Virginia, and on the board of directors for 5th Wall Theatre and Karar Dance Company. Thomas has also served as Development Assistant for the School of Performing Arts in the Richmond Community (SPARC) in Richmond, VA, and as Administrative and Executive Assistant at Eastern Music Festival (EMF) in Greensboro, North Carolina. They were the inaugural Program Coordinator for the Private Lessons Program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro College of Visual and Performing Arts, where they grew the program to reach 49 students and employ 13 student instructors. Thomas graduated summa cum laude from the University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Arts Administration.

In addition to their administrative work, Thomas's technical background includes serving as Assistant Technical Director at EMF, light and sound operator for Off the Beaten Path's production of Circle Mirror Transformation, working as sound recordist and editor for the award-winning web series Library Freaks, and producer and editor for Artists at Work.

An avid musician and songwriter, Thomas performed and produced an EP of original music, “Roundabout.” They have arranged music for ensembles from jazz bands and double reed ensembles to concert bands and orchestras, and has taught musical theatre, private lessons, marching band, and worked with middle school bands and orchestras. Thomas is writing and composing an original musical about the challenges of living with mental illness, based in part on their own experiences.

Thomas enjoys graphic design, doing the daily New York Times crossword, listening to podcasts, binge-watching the best of streaming, and spending time with their wife, Sarah, and their cat. Thomas resides in Philadelphia, PA.
